Inverter/chargers

Inverter-chargers combine a battery charger and a power inverter in one device to ensure seamless energy supply both at shore and at sea when external power is available. They form the backbone of modern onboard electrical systems, especially for boats that frequently switch between shore power and battery operation.

Power your boat with efficiency and flexibility using our range of inverter/chargers from Victron. With Victron, you get reliable, efficient, and intelligent energy management — ideal for sailboats, motorboats, and off-grid marine setups.

How does an inverter/charger work?

An inverter/charger is a combined device that:

  • Converts DC battery power to AC power for onboard appliances
  • Charges batteries automatically when shore power or generator power is available

When shore power is available, the unit passes AC power to onboard systems and charges the batteries. When shore power is disconnected, it instantly switches to inverter mode, supplying AC power from the batteries without interruption. This integration reduces system complexity and improves efficiency.

Why are inverter/chargers important on a boat?

Inverter/chargers are important because they:

  • Provide 230V power without shore connection
  • Automatically switch between power sources
  • Ensure batteries are charged safely and efficiently
  • Reduce the need for separate devices

They enable comfortable and reliable onboard living.
